THE OBWS CONCEPT

The Outback Woodshack already operates from a home based custom shop (within all Meaford Bi-laws) making and selling hand made crafts and functional goods from an assortment of natural and reclaimed materials. Such as -Personalized Signs -Charcuterie Boards -Chopping blocks -Custom furniture -Table and Counter tops -Raw and finished materials. We can also provide a variety of services such as -Home Installations (shelving, counter tops, Bath and Kitchen) -Milling Services – Tree removal (no falling of trees) -Project Design and Consulting. Along with This The Outback Woodshack is potentially a lot more. The OBWS shop is the cumulative work of the Aitken family. All tools and equipment are owned by OBWS. We are Charlie and Jennifer Aitken, In 2016 we purchased our home in Meaford. Charlie was born and raised in Toronto and Jenn grew up in Simcoe County. Jenn has a background in retail sales and is a stay at home mom of 3. Charlie is a step dad and has a background as a carpenter, welder fabricator, home builder, snow maker, tree planter and many other trades. The Outback Woodshack (OBWS) was founded this year as our own hobby business. Making and selling hand made wood and reclaimed crafts. These backgrounds offer endless conversation and connections with all walks of Meaford. The OBWS is our shed at our home on Captains Court in Meaford. What started as a simple hobby quickly turned in to a passion shared by the new Aitken family and friends. Meaford is a unique and diverse town. We have seen such an expanding community in only 2 years as home owners. Our Family has found and made many new relationships, from Value Mart to The St. Vincent 4H Beef Cattle Club. We quickly found more opportunities such as The Meaford Farmers Market, which we participated in a full season of 18 markets. Within our 4 months of participation at the Farmers Market (3pm-7pm Fridays), we were able to complete 15 custom signs including a reflective street sign at 31 Vera Avenue And an indoor sign for Tilly's By The Bay. Our custom signs start at $40 and have sold for $150. This position lets OBWS relate to and understand the people and tourists of Meaford. Word of mouth and recommendations are fuel of any new business. Our relationships with Scotia bank and Guardhouse Financial allow us to easily transition into a full time operation. We at Outback Woodshack feel establishing a retail store front would allow the continued natural growth and is or main long term goal. It would provide opportunities to display, sell and stock inventory. We would have a location to conduct skills demonstrations, host visiting crafts people and offer an event space for local artists or other creative pursuits.
